They (Jews) - (Israel), believed he was a prophet

Isn't it strange they

(Israel),

(Jews),

believed he was a prophet

and

did not believe the message he brought

that Jesus Christ

is their/our Messiah?

Today's "Christians" many of them, as prophesied, 
do not really believe that he is coming soon!

But if we say,
 'Of human origin'-we are afraid of the people, 
for they all hold that John was a prophet."
